Product Review: Clif Bar

So one of the perks of being a #BibRavePro is not only the awesome opportunity to run races in exchange of promoting them and publishing reviews, but are the products we get to receive as well to review. About a week ago, I got a box from Clif Bar, inside the box were a few boxes including Clif Bar Mini Energy Bars, Luna Protein and Clif Shot Bloks. Not only did I get to test them out myself but I also shared them with my friends who workout together as a group that makes up 9run6.

CLIF BAR SHOT BLOKS

IMG_0081My favorite of the Clif Bar products I was able to sample were the Clif Shot Bloks (Tropical Punch). These were easy to store while on the run, easy to chew and digest as well tasted great. These particular Shot Bloks had 25mg of caffeine. The other beauty of this product is that it is 95% organic and doesn’t contain gelatin! The ingredients include: Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Dried Cane Syrup, Organic Maltodextrin, Pectin, Citric Acid, Colored with Black Carrot Juice Concentrate, Natural Flavor, Potassium Citrate, Green Tea Extract, Sea Salt, Organic Sunflower Oil, Carnauba Wax.

CLIF BAR LUNA PROTEIN

Another product that I received and reviewed was the Luna Protein. This product which is marketed primarily to women contains key items for women including calcium, iron, folic acid, and vitamin D. With 12g of protein this gluten free bar has a nice tasty flavor to it. If you like chocolate and coconut you cannot go wrong with the Chocolate Coconut almond Luna Protein bar.

Clif Bar Energy Bar Minis

The final product I reviewed were the Clif Bar Energy Bars, and to be honest I am glad they were mini size. Though they are convenient to carry along and keep in your running shorts, these bars were not my cup of tea. Each of these bars contains 23 Vitamins and Minerals, but the taste of them is not something I enjoyed. For me they were pretty bland and just weren’t something I enjoyed taking along for my workouts.

What do you use for your workout energy / snacks to hold you over during those long runs or difficult workouts? Have you ever tried any Clif Bar products? Which ones do you prefer?

  1. I use shot bloks pretty religiously for my long runs. My favorite is the margarita flavor, it has extra sodium.

I’m not a big clif bar fan either, but I do like their mojo bars. The pretzel peanut butter one is pretty good. But I don’t use these for runs, more of an emergency snack to carry around in my car or something.
