When it comes to the Buzz Oates Run Sac Race Series, the areas top runners tend to come out and perform. Each running vying for top runner and prize money by the end of the year. The beauty of the Run Sac Race Series is that it is age graded so it doesn’t guarantee the faster younger runner will be the top. There is a formula that gives each runner a chance based on age and performance in that particular race to earn points. When one of these races comes around, it is simple … bring your “A” game otherwise you’ll be left behind.
This morning I was left behind in the 5k Foot Pursuit. The race that started and finished at Miller Park in Sacramento was a quick and fast out and back to Old Sacramento. Today I ran a decent place of 6:45 per mile, covering the course in a total time of 21:07. This 5k time was faster than last weeks 5k time but I still finished 45th overall and 10 in the men’s 30-39 division. So again the finish and overall placement is always relative to the field running on that given day.
The route itself was very fun and different. Starting at Miller Park the course went north towards Old Sacramento, running through the tunnel that connect the Downtown Plaza and Old Sac, then wrapping back around onto the trail alongside the Sacramento River. This is definitely a route I could enjoy and race I will be running in again. Part of this route today has been familiar for me in a couple of the 2011 races, the Shamrockin Half Marathon and the Capitol City Classic both part of this route in their races.
Next week it will be another busy running weekend as I take on a 10k in Elk Grove and a 5k in the Natomas area of Sacramento. The Run For Independence 10k is another Capital Road Race Management run held on Saturday June 25th in Elk Grove, Ca. To register for the Run For Independence log onto http://capitalroadrace.com . While the June 26th Summer Fest 5k is part of the Tour De Fit series hosted by A Change of Pace. To register for the Sunday 5k log onto www.changeofpace.com. I hope to see you all out there at one of these upcoming races. Only a couple more of these shorter races for the summer before I shut it all down for the SF Marathon on July 31st.
