a true off day …

Today was a true off day. Yes a day without a workout… No trainer… No light jog… And no Insanity (even though there was a scheduled workout on the calendar). It was all about saving the legs and energy for this weekend’s races. The Folsom Run With Nature 5k tomorrow morning and the Avenue of Vines Half Marathon on Sunday in Lodi. Both of them will make up for some great races and hopefully equating to some great results.
The only running related thing I did today was going to the Fleet Feet Stockton to pick up my race packet for Sunday. For a half marathon this race provides for a pretty awesome packet giving each half marathon runner a goodie bag that is a functional synch bag, technical t-shirt, jump rope and all kinds of free snacks and the normal fliers for upcoming races in the area. The other outstanding thing about this race is at the end of the half marathon each runner gets a wine glass to do some wine tasting and a finishers medal. Then to top all that off the top male and female runners get their weight in wine and each division winner gets a magnum bottle of Woodbridge Wine. My bib number for this weekends half marathon will be #321.
The courses this weekend both are unique in their own way.  The 5K has a downhill start, some flats through the run and a couple of small climbs towards the end of the course. While the half marathon is all flat as we venture through the vineyards in Lodi starting and finishing at the Woodbridge Winery by Mondavi. For those looking for a couple of fun races I recommend both of these runs. The Folsom Run with Nature has a 5k, 10k and Wild Way obstacle course which runners can sign up for the morning of the run. The Avenue of the Vines is still taking sign ups until tomorrow at the Fleet Feet Stockton location and also offers a 5k along with the half marathon.
The weekend should bring for some good running if the weather holds up well. There is supposed to be some rain in the forecast this weekend so I am hoping it doesn’t hit too hard on Sunday. I hope to see some of you runners out there. If you cannot make it out follow me on twitter for up to date results @chrismalenab.
