After driving back up from Ventura I decided to get the legs and body moving by jumping into the pool. After my typical warmup of 100 meters freestyle, 100 meters kick board and 100 meters pull buoy I attacked my workout. The pool workout for today was 1000 meters freestyle. I was unsure if I was going to be able to get through this workout because I just completed a 6 hour drive from So Cal. However, it is amazing what the body can achieve when the mind says “I am going to get this done today.”
The warm-up went well, normally the warm-up always goes through pretty quickly and smoothly. I think the warm-up moves pretty well because of the various exercises and isolation of muscles being used in each activity. During the actual workout the first few hundred meters were a struggle, but then once the breathing and body starts to get into a rhythm then things start to flow. That was the case with this workout. My swimming workouts seem to mirror my running workouts. Often times the first couple of miles tend to be the most difficult, but once I can get through mile 3 or 4 then the workouts start to become easier. At the end of the workout, I was exhausted. This feeling is always a great feeling knowing that I pushed my body as hard as I could on that given day.
