Run: Active Rest
Additional Workout: Insanity Core Cardio & Balance
One of the most common questions I get from my friends who want to start running is “what else do I need?” My first response is “go buy a Garmin”. A Garmin is a GPS watch that has so many different functions and features. Though there are several different models I prefer the Garmin Forerunner 305. Here is why … it not only has the basic functions of running time, real time, calories and distance, but it does pace elevation and several other items that you can choose to display. Also unlike the 205 the 305 has a heart rate monitor. I do not use the heart rate monitor on the runs but I do enjoy using it for my Insanity workouts and other cross training workouts. When I set my watch I prefer the following settings on a four grid 1) real time 2) pace time 3) distance and 4) running time. I end up switching to a three part screen I end up using the previous except for the real time. To me this is the most important piece of technology / equipment for a runner especially those that want to keep track of workouts and see improvement. The downside is the cost, but like anything else you do need to make some investments. In running I would say this is an investment worth buying. You can find Garmin watches at most local running stores or on the Garmin Website (www.garmin.com).
